THEATER COMMUNICATIONS GROUP CHOOSES L.A. FOR ITS 50TH ANNIVERSARY CONFERENCE

Theatre Communications Group, the national theater support organization and publisher of American Theatre Magazine, has chosen Los Angeles as the site of its 50th anniversary conference, in the summer of 2011. This will mark the first time that the conference has ever been in L.A.

Executive Director Teresa Eyring made the following statement:

 “It is an exciting and challenging time for theater. We face demographic shifts, the explosion of social media, an unpredictable economic environment. Meanwhile, TCG is on the verge of celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2011. The founding of TCG in 1961 was one of the events that helped a collection of resident theaters in the 1960s come to view themselves as part of a movement. And we chose LA as the location for our conference in this anniversary year for a number of reasons. It represents a microcosm of how theater has evolved in this nation, from large resident companies such as the Center Theatre Group to small ensembles of every stripe. It is an extremely progressive theater community in terms of its consciousness of internationalism, arts learning, new work and new forms. And it has grown up next to the film and television industries, which at one time were believed to be a major threat to the very existence of theatre. We are very excited about the energy and possibility presented by Los Angeles for our 2011 conference.”

TALES OF DOWNTOWN

Nancy Mills' blog about her life in a downtown L.A. loft takes to the stage Sunday, March 28, 3 p.m. at Company of Angels at the historic Alexandria Hotel, Fifth and Spring streets, Downtown. Mills is a former columnist for The Hollywood Reporter who was also published in The Ladies Home Journal.
