Horton Foote, who chronicled America's wistful odyssey through the 20th century in plays and films mostly set in a small town in Texas, died in Hartford, Conn., on March 4, 2009. He was 92.
Mr. Foote wrote more than 60 plays, most of which are set in a fictional Texas town called Harrison, where everybody knows everybody else's name and business. Though Harrison, inspired by Mr. Foote's hometown of Wharton, Tex., assumes a geographically and sociologically detailed existence in these plays, it is also the setting for Mr. Foote's abiding theme of the elusiveness of the ideal of a fixed and enduring home.

Aspiring singers can win a chance to sing on stage with five Broadway stars in Neil Berg's 100 Years of Broadway at the Wadsworth Theatre on Thursday, April 23 at 8 pm. Submission guidelines are posted at www.singingwiththebroadwaystars.com
One winner and five runners-up will be selected by the show's panel of industry experts — including producers, singers, and managers and Neil Berg himself.
Berg's “lavish and lively show recreates some of the biggest moments from the best known Broadway musicals of the century.”
To submit, contestants need to upload a 90 to 120 second video clip of
themselves singing a Broadway favorite to YouTube, MySpace, or
Facebook, and then go to www.singingwiththebroadwaystars.com and select “Los Angeles.”
(“I Did It My Way” is not a Broadway favorite. However, “Tomorrow Belongs to Me” from Cabaret
is perfect, an inspiring and uplifting song that all applicants should
sing loudly in their kitchens, regardless of whether they use it as
their submission.)
Winners get perks such as tickets for their family and friends to see their Broadway debut!
