What do you call an Irishman who stays out all night? Pati'o Furniture!

Hah. We're all a little Irish today (and we're not just talking about our 5 foot tall grandfather). But don't count on the luck of the emerald people to intervene, even if you're wearing green.

The boys and girls in blue will be out in force in L.A. and its environs tonight and, in a strange twist …

… the LAPD has special DUI enforcement efforts planned through the weekend (as if we're still drinking Guinness stout on Sunday).

Across the metro L.A. region tonight a Los Angeles County DUI task force will be focusing on areas where drunk-driving-related collisions have been a problem.

“Whether you are meeting a few friends at the local pub after work or attending a social gathering, if you plan on drinking, never drive while impaired, and never let your friends drive if you think they are drunk,'' said Chief Rob Castro of the Glendora Police Department, of the task force's coordinating agencies.

An LAPD spokesman couldn't tell us what the department has on-tap specifically for tonight (but we're pretty sure it's not Harp Lager). But here's what we do know about the rest of the weekend, according to a department statement:

March 18, 2011 (Friday) – Sobriety Checkpoint in Central Area on Figueroa Street between 8th Street and 9th Street from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.

March 19, 2011 (Saturday) – Sobriety Checkpoint in Hollywood Area on Highland Avenue at Odin Street from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.

March 20, 2011 (Sunday) – DUI Saturation Patrol in Harbor Area from 12 p.m. to

8 p.m.

Cops have two words for you: Designated driver. Or taxi … cab.
