It's the first weekend of spring, and you know the crazies will be howling at the moon.

The Los Angeles Police Department and other area agencies know this too, and they're launching DUI checkpoints and extra patrols.

The LAPD argues that letting you know details of its anti–drunk driving operations could dissuade you from getting behind the wheel after one too many. And that could save lives.

“The DUI checkpoints bring a laser focus to communities where DUI traffic collisions are occurring that are preventable through education and enforcement,” the department said in a statement.

Here's what's happening, according to LAPD and other area agencies:

Tonight from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m., there will be extra cops searching for DUI drivers on the streets of LAPD's 77th Street Division in South L.A. The department calls it a “saturation patrol.”

-Tonight from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m., a DUI checkpoint will be set up on Sunset Boulevard and Fountain Avenue, where Silver Lake meets East Hollywood.

-Tonight from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m., a checkpoint will be awaiting your arrival on La Brea Avenue and Third Street in the Hancock Park area.

-Tonight from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m., Pasadena police will deploy a checkpoint at an undisclosed location in their fair city.

-Saturday from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m., a DUI saturation patrol will hit the streets of LAPD's Central Bureau area, which includes downtown, Westlake, Boyle Heights and the area just south of downtown.

-Saturday from 6 p.m. to midnight, a DUI checkpoint will be running on Van Nuys Boulevard at Roscoe Boulevard in Panorama City.

-Saturday from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department will be operating a checkpoint at an undisclosed location in the city of Palmdale.

Be safe. Spring fever in jail is no fun.
