Despite the name, Secret Stealth is far from an underground collective suited only for hardcore electrohead tastes. A slew of high-profile local DJ appearances by the Nottingham, U.K., pair should make it clear to everyone: This is a (tour de) force to be funked with. In support of the recent U.S. debut Hooked on You (on Kosmica Records), SS’s Jim Baron and Bob Sadler are essentially taking over L.A. with their meld of cosmic and retro disco groove, making an appearance nearly every night of the week. If Hooked is any indication, expect the mixes to be full of frothy, fun dance music that would sound as right on a spaceship as it would on the Love Boat. And with so many stops, there’s no excuse not to hop aboard. Amoeba Records in-store appearance, 6400 Sunset Blvd., Hlywd.; Fri., Aug. 17. Vanguard, 6021 Hollywood Blvd., Hlywd.; Sat., Aug. 18 at Giant club night & Sun., Aug. 19 at Deep club night. Moonshadows, 20356 Pacific Coast Hwy., Malibu; Sun., Aug. 19. Beauty Bar, 1638 N. Cahuenga Blvd., Hlywd.; Wed., Aug. 22. Temporary Spaces (list only); Thurs., Aug. 23. See myspace.com/secretstealth for more info.
