Congressional candidate Marcy Winograd has formally asked Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and a handful of mega-stars to stop flying via private jet in and out of Santa Monica Airport because of the pollution the planes cause for neighbors in the neighboring, L.A. city community of Mar Vista.

Winograd, who is vying for Jane Harman's Westside seat in the June 8 primary, has sent a “no jets” pledge to the governor as well as to Steven Spielberg, Julia Roberts, John Travolta and Tom Cruise, “all of whom reportedly contribute to jet traffic at Santa Monica airport,” according to a statement from the congressional hopeful.

“If the FAA refuses to act, if our lawmakers can't produce results, then the people must take reasonable measures to protect the health and safety of their families,” she writes in a letter to the stars. “What may be a matter of convenience to some is a matter of life and death to others trapped in a vortex of noise and air pollution.”

She states that the first star to sign her pledge will be featured on her Facebook page.

The pledge states, in part, “I understand jet traffic is making life unbearable and unhealthful for nearby residents. I respect the residents right to breathe clean air and live in peace. I will choose another means of transportation … “
