Originally conceived to share production costs by bringing multiple dance companies together to perform, the long-running Spectrum series (now at No. 23) has become an outstanding showcase for local talent, picking up multiple awards along the way. The curatorial eye of choreographer/producer Deborah Brockus provides dance lovers with one-stop shopping — a chance to sample handpicked local troupes strutting their best stuff. Brockus invariably offers a blend of established ensembles and new kids on the block, with dance genres running from jazz to tap to modern to folkloric to hip-hop to ballet, with stops in between. This edition inaugurates a new venue and spotlights choreography from Bubba Carr, Denise Leitner, Ellen Rosa, Kujo (Lux Aeterna Dance Company), Deirdre Graves, mecca vazie andrews, Hiroshi Hamanishi, Amy Campion (Antica Performance), Ruby Karen, Seda Aybay (Kybele Dance Theater), John Castagna (Ballet Collective), Hazel Clarke (Kairos Dance Co.), Alicia Vaca (Paso de Oro) and Brockus (Brockus Project Dance Company). El Portal Theatre, 5269 Lankershim Blvd., N. Hlywd.; Sun., March 18, 7 p.m.; $18-$22. (818) 508-4200.
