We can't (legally) detonate anything in the streets anymore, but that doesn't mean we cant ignite the dance floor this July 4th weekend. This year's club events, like the best fireworks, come in many styles and colors. From trannies to techno giants, sex bombs to club bangers, here's what's sure to go-off.

FRI, JULY 3

A CLUB CALLED RHONDA- She's ba-ack! Though Rhonda's former locale, the Latin dive Guatelinda nightclub was part of her ironic appeal, it was mostly the artfully frocked regulars and dirty booty-beats that made the bash what it was. Free jello shots helped. Now at El Cid for her comeback, with the whole gang (Aaron Castle, The Goddollars crew, Acid Girls, et al) joining, Rhonda looks to rock your world once again. And yeah, they refer to the club as a “She,” but anyone who's ever been there knows this spot's the ultimate gender blend. El Cid, 4212 W. Sunset Blvd., Silver Lake. Info and RSVP at www.rhondasays.net

PLANETARY SERIES' RED PLANET- Fans of minimal techno must orbit into this special event from Modularz & Robtronik, headlined by Robert Hood. The Detroit pioneer's hypnotic style meshes acid and industrial influences with classic Chicago house for a signature sound that fittingly, out of this world. This appearance is in support of his “Minimal Nation” Record Release. Also with Detroit favorite, Octave: One. Location TBA. RSVP for info to plantaryseries@gmail.com
