The pastor of a South Los Angeles church was charged in connection with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl who is a member of his congregation, the District Attorney's office announced Friday.

Leonel Pelayo, 45, faces six felony counts that including lewd act upon a child and unlawful sexual intercourse. Freed in lieu of $140,000 bail, Pelayo was expected to be arraigned Sept. 30, according to deputy District Attorney Martha Carrillo of the office's Sex Crimes Division.

Pelayo allegedly committed the crimes between July 1 and Aug. 20. He works at Iglesia Apostolica Monte de Horeb, is accused of engaging in a sexual relationship with the victim. The girl is a member of his congregation.

If he's convicted he could see more than four years in prison, according to the D.A.'s office.
