Rising North Carolina rapper sosocamo headlined The Echoplex last Friday, April 3, delivering a high-energy set that underscored his rapid ascent in rap, following the release of his sophomore album big country. He drew from new material and earlier fan favorites, including “soulless” and “there he go” off no service and a number of new tracks off big country, including “200,” and “say dat.” He capped off the show with his breakthrough hit “keep steady.”

Born Cameron Sanders in Apex, a town 30-minutes outside of Raleigh, sosocamo often cites his rural upbringing — what he’s described as “the sticks,” with limited cell service — as the inspiration behind his 2024 debut album no service. Raised in a musical household shaped by gospel, church choir, and Southern rap, he began recording as a teenager and built an early audience through SoundCloud uploads. His sound has since evolved into a blend of ear-pleasing melodies and atmospheric trap and R&B.

big country has been widely noted for its polished production and expanded scope, featuring collaborations with SoFaygo, ApolloRed1, and Lelo. The project builds on the momentum of his breakout single “keep steady,” which has amassed over 130 million streams across platforms, as well as a recent co-sign from Justin Bieber.

Additional milestones include placements on RapTV’s Next-Up Class of 2025 and Complex’s Artists to Watch list, along with a collaboration with Russ on the soundtrack for Steph Curry’s animated film GOAT. He also recently performed alongside Don Toliver at SXSW.

The Echoplex show reflected sosocamo’s burst from bedroom recordings to national stages, driven by a steadily growing fanbase built through viral releases, social media traction, and consistent touring.
