While you're proudly boasting about your heritage as a Filipino, Mexican, Dane, Somalian, Israelite, Alaskan or whatever, how about giving your hometown some street cred? Today, fly your freak flag high as an Angeleno at L.A. Heritage Day. To recall the eloquent words of the oft-quoted unofficial city spokesperson Rodney King, “Can't we all just get along?” Honor the King's sentiment at this celebration of the people, places, art and history of this great metropolis. More than 100 heritage groups participate at this daylong fest, including the Art Deco Society, Culinary Historians of Southern California, Western Educators, Shooters and Troopers. and every museum, preservation group and historical society from Pomona and Venice to Eagle Rock and Canoga Park and back. Educational and entertainment offerings include tours of historic homes, live music, living history characters walking around, readings, cooking lessons, lectures, a scavenger hunt and opportunities to try the local “native” foods (Pink's hot dogs, what else?).
