Dennis RomeroBecause all you liberal hipsters have rediscovered the wonderful yet dense concrete jungles of L.A.'s inner city (Echo Park, Highland Park, downtown), green space is kind of a big deal.
Pocket parks are immensely cool, but you'll take grass where you can get it, and we're not just talking about the lush greenery at the dispensary down the street.
But this here little piece of green land is 100 percent vertical:

That's right. The folks at Rising Realty Partners say they plan to build 80-foot-tall vertical green space on the side of its circa-1908 PacMutual Campus downtown.
They hope to have the wall up by July. According to an RRP statement:
The vertical landscape feature will adorn the east side of the PacMutual Campus in Downtown Los Angeles, one of the most historic buildings in the City, and will overlook Pershing Square. A restaurant and café will be situated at the base of the LiveWall.

We asked a spokesman if people will be allowed to climb it, as some will invariably want to do. The answer is no.
This wall is not made for walking. You'll mostly have to enjoy it with your peepers, although the company says it will be part of a pocket park.
The vertical greenery will comprise the first use of LiveWall's Green Wall System, which that firm describes as “flexible, modular living wall systems that can be installed on virtually any outdoor surface.”
A restaurant and cafe will be at the base of this here green mountain, RRP says. Reed Garwood, RRP executive vice president for asset management and development says:
Constructing an 80-foot-tall LiveWall Green Wall System on a historic building is an engineering feat in itself. This park will open up the western side of Pershing Square, attracting more pedestrian and retail traffic to an area that has seen better days.
Live wall. Just don't have a picnic on it.
