Earlier this week Gov. Arnold Schwarzengger said on the Tonight Show that, in California, “No one cares if you smoke a joint or not.”

That pronouncement just might be put the test this weekend as the Kush Expo in Orange County promises to unveil the first pot-smoking area at a marijuana convention the L.A.-O.C. area.

The Expo states on its site:

EVERY medical marijuana expo in Los Angeles has never had a 420 smoking area! You will get a chance to try the most up to date and cutting edge smoking devices in the smoking area. You do not need your medical card to get into the convention hall, but will need it to enter the 420 smoking area. Make sure you are there on Nov. 12-14, 2010!

It happens Friday through Sunday at the Anaheim Convention Center.

Expo organizer Rick Walker told the Orange County Register the smoking zone wasn't always a sure thing:

“We went back and forth with (convention officials) and attorneys, but we argued that the people who need medical marijuana need it every few hours and they may not be able to attend otherwise. So we're thrilled they gave us a designated space.”

Hmm. How much you want to bet the Anaheim Convention Center folks reconsider after the Register hits the streets Wednesday morning?
