Bust out your legwarmers, dig up your old Flashdance sweatshirt and head over to the Sweat Spot. Choreographer and performance artist Ryan Heffington recently opened this Silver Lake dance studio, which is home to his colorful all-levels dance classes: Sweaty Sundays, Wet Wednesdays and Fit Fridays. Students of all shapes, sizes and abilities, in their early 20s or late 40s — it really doesn’t matter — come by the dozens to Heffington’s classes, which deliver the promised sweat and agony while encouraging expression, movement and fun, all with the aim of bringing out your inner Lady Gaga. Heffington warms up the Silver Lake yuppies, aspiring performers and everyday professionals with a series of yoga moves, then teaches a lyrical routine that looks like a mix of what you might see in a Beyoncé video with something the Laker Girls might do at halftime. Heffington’s dance romps, and every class at the Sweat Spot — including yoga, Pilates and rock ’n’ roll ballet — is just 10 bucks. 3327 Sunset Blvd., Silver Lake. thesweatspotla.com. —Christine Pelisek
