The charming rogues at So Percussion are among a rarefied bunch of virtuoso drum ensembles, which specialize in that curious new world of classical and avant-garde, writing for anything that produces a sound when you hit it. While the quartet's young, Brooklyn-based members are gaining a reputation as innovative composers (their nontraditional battery of percussive instruments has included ceramic planters, pails of water, aluminum beer cans and cactus needles), they are also the go-to band for the definitive interpretations of new works by modernist composers Steve Reich, Paul Lansky and David Lang. Tonight, for “Green Umbrella: Percussion Marvels,” So Percussion — along with the L.A. Philharmonic New Music Group, — bring their thrashing best to edgy works by Bang on a Can co-founders Lang (the so-called laws of nature) and Michael Gordon (Timber, a percussion piece played entirely on six 2-by-4 pieces of wood). Walt Disney Concert Hall, 111 S. Grand Ave., dwntwn.; Tue., Oct. 7, 8 p.m.; $20. (323) 850-2000, laphil.com/20dollartickets.
