Proper sushi restaurants seem to have more rules than a country club.

You can probably add Don't bring your pet snake to the list.

Suspect Hiroshi Motohashi was listed as being behind bars today after he allegedly brought his snake to a Studio City sushi restaurant and made criminal threats, according to authorities.

The 46-year-old was described by police as a patron of the eatery in the 12000 block of Ventura Boulevard. Reports peg the location as Iroha Sushi of Tokyo at 12953 Ventura Blvd.

The incident happened Sunday shortly before 7 p.m., according to the L.A. Fire Department.

“The call came in as a guy criminally threatening an employee at a sushi place,” Los Angeles Police Department officer Drake Madison alleged. “There was a dispute between him and an employee. He leaves, brings a big snake into the location, and somehow threatened the employee.”

L.A. Sheriff's Department inmate data indicates Motohashi was jailed in Van Nuys in lieu of $50,000 bail.

The snake was taken by Los Angeles Animal Services, Madison said. Some patrons fled when the disturbance broke out, he said.

No injuries were reported.

The fire department, sometimes dispatched to animal-related emergencies, received a 911 call about a snake at 6:47 p.m. Sunday, said LAFD spokeswoman Margaret Stewart. Police were soon requested for a possibly “belligerent person,” she said.

It's not clear what the dispute was about. Maybe somebody broke the rules.
