Art Deco Fashion, Burlesque and Gambling at the Hollywood American Legion

The majestic Hollywood American Legion Post 43, located at 2035 N. Highland Ave., was built in 1928 and boasts a 480-seat cinema, the historic Art Deco Bar where Humphrey Bogart used to hang out, a Memorial Shrine, lecture hall, billiard room and other various time-worn lounges. Parts of the building are currently undergoing restoration, but on Saturday, Nov. 18, it opened its doors to the Art Deco Society of Los Angeles' Casino Moderne night. Cards were dealt in the casino, dice were thrown, and the wheel was spun on an original 1919 roulette table. Guests also sipped Prohibition-style cocktails, danced to the jazzy tunes of Janet Klein and Her Parlor Boys, toured the historic American Legion Post and got a taste of the risqué with a sizzling, sultry burlesque act.
