Skateistan Art Benefit @ Nomad Los Angeles


Artists, activists, and the skate community came together for an art benefit to raise money and awareness for Skateistan. Skateistan is a co-educational skateboarding school that engages youth in Afghanistan and Cambodia through skateboarding, provides youth with new opportunities in cross-cultural interaction, education, and personal empowerment programs.The Benefit show was produced by Sowaila Zada and Social.Experiment, and curated by the community alongside SIMJEE TEXTOR, the event was hosted at NOMAD Gallery, a printmaking studio and art compound located in Northeast Los Angeles’s Frogtown. Artists included Chris Pastras, Retna, How and Nosm, Tim Kerr, Shepard Fairey, Clint Peterson, Chad Muska, Alia Penner, Deedee Cheriel, Skullphone, Black Brain LA, Tony Hawk, Philip Salick, Amy Jo Diaz, Daniel Gibson, ABCNT, Drew Bienemann & Aaron Thomas, Annie Madison, Benjamin Scharf and more

The day included a meditation pyramid, “The PEACE Photo Project” by Azul 213 and music DJ sets by The Embassy. All photos by Shannon Cottrell.
