Tacos might be the after-dark snack du jour on the Eastside, but apparently not everybody's down for truckin'. Last week, Echo Park's best known mobile Mexi muncher, the Taco Zone, caught fire after two unidentified persons threw some type of molotov cocktail (twice) at the beloved truck, parked in its usual spot on Alvarado inside the Vons Supermarket parking lot. Speculative word on the street is that the drive-by attack was from competitors or gang members, but with no IDs or real evidence, it could have just as easily been anti-Asada animal rights activists or OG EP dwellers trying to get the hipster chomp n' romp scene outta their hood once and for all.

Both LA Times and LAist report no one was hurt, and -to the relief to taco-obsessed Twitterers and Facebookers in the LA area- the truck is back at its post, but the owners need help paying for repairs (a charred roof), and a bunch of local fans, friends and street-foodies are doing something to help.

A benefit concert has been planned for this Friday, June 12 at Spaceland, with an impressive line-up indeed. DJ Ana Calderon (La Boum) and DJ Chris Holmes (The Bar, Malo, and the man who spun before Paul McCartney at Coachella this year), comedy from Aziz Ansari (Human Giant, Flight of the Conchords, The Office) and live music from Robert Frances, Red Cortez, Kenan Bell, The Mae Shi (DJ set) and maybe some surprises. All proceeds (there'll be an $8 cover) will go to the ladies of Taco Zone, who'll be in the house for the event.
