Sailing, row boating and snorkeling – along with a healthy dose of business networking – are rarely activities that single-mom-led families are able to enjoy together.

As a child who was raised by a single mother, that was my experience. So I started the nonprofit organization Single Moms Planet in 2013 after seeing the need to provide resources for single mothers to grow their business prospects and finances, all while strengthening the relationships with their kids through bonding experiences.

With that in mind, we developed one of our flagship programs, the Momprenuer & Kids Summer Camp. Launched on Catalina Island in 2017, the camp for single moms and their families offers the best of both worlds by blending a mom’s business side with her family side, in a fun, active weekend.

The camp was going strong until the COVID-19 pandemic arrived in 2020, and we had to go on a long pause.

However, after a two-year break, we’re back this month. And this year we are partnering with the Boy Scouts of America Western Los Angeles Council to make the experience the most exciting ever.

The Momprenuer & Kids Summer Camping Trip will take place from Friday, August 12th to Sunday, August 14th at Camp Emerald Bay, on Catalina Island, located 22 miles southwest of Los Angeles.

The camp, operated by the Boy Scouts of America, allows single moms and their children to participate in water activities, archery, games and hiking, as well as share campfire stories and more. Emerald Bay’s colorful natural landscape and outdoor camping area allows campers the ability to enjoy the fresh air and the star-filled night time sky. The camp aims to provide a memorable experience and a unique bonding opportunity for mothers and their children.

With the turbulence of the current economy even as the pandemic slowly fades, conducting business and empowering working mothers and business owners is especially important.

“Every year we’ve grown the program with more activities and more campers until the pandemic hit,” shared Cole Patterson, our Single Moms Planet co-founder. “But as things started to open up during the pandemic, we felt it was the perfect time to bring back summer camp and add more activities by teaming with the Boy Scouts and raising greater awareness with working moms and executive moms who are extremely excited about this year’s event.”

The camp is open to children ages 7 to 18 who must be accompanied by their mother or a female guardian at all times. Admission to the camp for a mother with up to two children is a $350 donation. Prospective moms can sign-up and view additional packages here.
