Audra Watt’s depictions of life, motherhood, fear, loss, and longing are all profoundly moving—but also profoundly honest. Her lyrics touch on instantly recognizable issues that we sometimes struggle to put into words. Here’s why her latest release, ‘The Good Of It,’ is worth your attention.
Americana singer-songwriter Audra Watt has shared her latest single, ‘The Good Of It,’ as she continues to be an intriguing new voice in the music world.
Based in Nashville’s music nerve center, Audra Watt’s musical background stretches back decades, with the artist crediting her love for music to the ‘60s and ‘70s artists that her parents played when she was just a kid.
Having been raised partly in Memphis—and having joined her fair share of bands, orchestras, and choirs during her youth—Audra’s knowledge and understanding of music was incredibly broad by the time she was thrust into the adult world. And even as she was learning, she made her own music, creating what she describes as “eclectic mixtapes,” featuring everything from R&B to pop and from alternative rock to hip hop.
However, following her college years in Nashville, Audra’s life led her down a different path, with the talented artist distancing herself from music as work and family life took over. Despite this, Audra’s time away from music ultimately proved to be consequential—in a good way. When her professional career brought her back to Nashville, it led her to rekindle her relationship with her lifelong passion. Audra realized that now, years on, she could reapproach songwriting with all the earned wisdom and experience of a life lived to the fullest.
Armed with that knowledge, Audra began developing a rare and brilliant sound—one that stands out from much of the falsity that defines modern music. Audra’s pop and country-tinged Americana is bracingly honest. Her debut single ‘Bullet Trains’ was a raw, open-hearted look at the way motherhood changes a person over the course of time.
Similarly, ‘The Good Of It’ is also powerful in its honesty and openness. The song is about how to look at the past; it’s about loose ends that were never properly tied up, half-truths that were never quite made whole, and jumbled-up memories that don’t seem to sit easily in the head. It’s a powerful, relatable song about knowing you’re never going to get all the answers you want to the questions you have, but learning to appreciate “the good of it” nonetheless.
Fans of Alanis Morissette, Fiona Apple, and Jewel will enjoy Audra Watt’s music, while those who feel like the lyricism of Taylor Swift chimes with their own lives will get a lot from her honest songwriting. ‘The Good Of It’ marks the first of several singles that Audra Watt is planning to release in the months leading up to the end of the year, which is likely to open her up to a whole new fanbase.
The Good Of It will be released on October 18th. Find out more here.
