An Assassination in Silver Lake.

Silver Lake, land of the hipster, home of gentrification. Sure. Look at the Mercedes SLK in our Google maps photo.

Still, people forget that it's also a barrio and, as such, people get murdered. Most of the city of L.A.'s streets are claimed by one gang or another, even in the Westside and the so-called new Eastside of Silver Lake and Echo Park.

Cops happened upon a killing near Silver Lake last night:

Officers heading to another call came across a man down in the 2200 block of Allesandro Street about 10:15 p.m., LAPD Officer Cleon Joseph told the Weekly.

The victim was suffering from a gunshot wound, he said.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded but couldn't revive him: The man was declared dead at the scene, Joseph said.

His ID was not available.

If you look at the map the terrain appears to be somewhere between Silver Lake, Echo Park and Elysian Park.

Not a good place to be if local gangsters are around.
