Woman Pulled From Sinking near Interstate 5 Dies in Hospital

SAN DIEGO, CA (March 23, 2021) – On Sunday of March 7, 21-year-old Sidnie Waller died days after her car sunk into a body of water near Interstate 5.

The accident occurred around 9:10 p.m., near Sea World Drive. A driver attempted to exit Sea World Drive at a high rate of speed for unexplained reasons.

There, the car veered off the road and into Tecolote Creek.

Waller’s vehicle was partly submerged in the water when responders arrived. In addition, Waller was trapped inside the sinking vehicle until crews were able to free her.

Medics performed CPR on Sidnie Waller of San Martin, until she was transported to the hospital. Three days later, she was pronounced dead at UC San Diego Medical Center.

Her death was caused by a brain injury and heart failure as a result of drowning, with blunt force head trauma.

At this time, authorities are still reviewing the cause of the crash. More information will be provided as soon as it is available.
