UPDATE at 1:20 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2016: Cops say they've made an arrest. Details are below. First posted at 6:02 a.m. on Jan. 8.

The shocking murder of a 17-year-old girl near Marina del Rey might have involved a drug deal gone sideways, according to a broadcast report.

A CBS Los Angeles/KCAL 9 report says investigators believe a man who is the boyfriend of the victim's sister, Lacey Carman, was allegedly trying to sell two pounds of marijuana when someone opened fire on an SUV he was in with the siblings.

The teen victim, Kristine Carman of Texas, was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics, according to police.

Officers responded to the attack at the Villa Marina Marketplace parking lot at Glencoe Avenue and Mindinao Way at 8 p.m. Wednesday, according to a Los Angeles Police Department statement:

The suspect in this incident is described as a male black, last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue beanie. He fled the location in a dark-colored SUV, possibly heading toward the 90 freeway.

Lacey Carmen, who says she lives in the Marina area, said on Facebook that she had been in the driver's seat of the SUV when “my sister was just murdered in front of me in a robbery gone wrong.''

“There's little room for okay or much less of anything else at this point,'' she wrote. The victim, she said, was “beautiful, smart and undeserving.''

“I pray that God is real and holding my sister's hand right now,” Lacey Carmen wrote. “I pray that you never have to feel this pain or this self-loathing.”

Anyone with information on the shooter was asked to call LAPD West Bureau Homicide investigators at 213-382-9470.

UPDATE at 1:20 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2016: LAPD today announced that a suspect in the case has been arrested.

Cops say that 21-year-old Cameron Frazier was arrested outside his home in the northern San Diego County town of Vista yesterday at 9:30 a.m.

Members of the FBI's Fugitive Task Force made the collar, LAPD said in a statement.

“Investigators said that Frazier shot and killed 17-year-old Kristine Carman after a failed robbery outside of Jerry's Deli in Marina del Rey,” the statement reads. “Frazier will be booked on a no-bail arrest warrant.”

The District Attorney's office will get the cops' file Wednesday for its consideration, LAPD says. Arraignment was expected Wednesday at the Superior Court building near LAX.

Witnesses were still sought. Anyone with info was asked to contact LAPD West Bureau Homicide investigators at 213-382-9470.
