Studio 54 references get thrown around a lot when talking about hot nightclubs, but we have a feeling even Steve Rubell himself would blow his stash at Shits & Giggles. The femme-bots and dance freaks who frequent this party don’t need nose candy or slick environs or VIP vamping at the velvet ropes to inspire excess, though. At S&G, the bawdy behavior and flamboyant fashion are simply what this crowd (largely gay, but more and more mixed lately) is all about, and the euphoric music mixes just heighten the hedonistic romping. This week, in celebration of the downtown disco orgy’s 1-year anniversary, they’re bringing in the big guns. Joining forces with Critter Control, Black Disco (see Music Feature) and the tastemakers at DFA, the lineup will include Hercules and Love Affair’s Andy Butler and LCD Soundsystem’s Pat Mahoney on the decks, and if the frenzy the latter caused at his gigs downtown and in Hollywood last summer are any indication, this one’s gonna be a glittering, glistening grind-a-thon like never before. A pre-party “disco nap” has never been more necessary. At Club 740, 740 S. Broadway, dwntwn; on Friday, February 20. $15 tix at www.brownpapertickets/event/53852; $20 at the door.
