Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming (Naive)

SHIIVA is Dreaming of M83: Jabril Ward of Lancaster, CA hardcore punks SHIIVA told us about his love for an M83 gem.

M83 Hurry Up Were Dreaming

(Naive)

Jabril Ward: One of the most beautiful things about music is the effect it has on its consumers. It can make you feel or act a certain way with its dramatic change in temp or the sudden strum of a bass guitar pulsating through your eardrums. Often certain music can take you to a place off world, or even help you find inner peace. Sometimes, music can save your life. In 2013 I came across an album that elevated me in such a hypersonic way, that till this day I constantly play this album on repeat. From its vibrant infectious electronic sounds, to its bright shoegaze sounds, Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming by M83 holds the crown as my all-time favorite album.

The amazing thing about the French electronic group is their ability to immerse you into a world of nostalgia and forgotten memories, while allowing you to venture into your own creative wonder. Whereas many of their records are great, something about their sixth studio album, Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming, pulls me into a dream world where I feel invincible. From its opening track to its closing this album holds a special place in my heart while also igniting what I would call a small taste of the Los Angeles nightlife. This record is a combination of synth pop with a small combination of a mellow ambience while utilizing authentic instruments such as the saxophone and flute. The album’s energy is immaculate and is nothing less than movie-like in its essence with songs like “Midnight City”, “Claudia Lewis”, and “Steve McQueen”.

Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming just recently celebrated its tenth birthday October of 2021 and as for tradition the album has been spun on repeat multiple times in my home. M83 not only provided me with a favorable record, but it has also given me the freedom to feel just as expressive as they have in the records creation.

SHIIVA is Dreaming of M83: SHIIVA’s “Cyclone” single is out now, and the EP of the same name is out soon.
