The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is investigating an incident involving a car that drove through a crowd of “Stop Asian Hate” protesters in Diamond Bar, Sunday.

The Sheriff’s said they are approaching it as a “hate crime” with the knowledge they have.

The incident was caught on video and posted by Instagram user @idalingi. The footage shows “Stop Asian Hate” protesters crossing the street on a green light, then a car can be heard honking at a protester who can be heard saying, “Get out of your car. Pull up.”

Moments later, a car at the stop light can be seen driving forward on a red light, through the crowd, and making a u-turn toward one of the protesters.

The person in the vehicle can then be heard yelling, “fuck China!” before driving off, pulling over, getting out of his vehicle and yelling more obscenities.

“Thank you to all those who came forward to report this hate incident which occurred at the ‘Stop Asian Hate’ rally in Diamond Bar yesterday,” Sheriff Alex Villanueva said in a social media post. “Hateful acts like this are not welcome in Los Angeles County and must STOP!”

The video shows the black Honda Civic’s 7XIV483 license plate number and investigators are still trying to identify the man.

LASD described the suspect as a white man in his 50s and will be presenting the incident to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration.

No injuries were reported in the incident.
