It's been a rough couple of weeks for Shepard Fairey, the Echo Park renegade-turned-commercial artist whose iconic Obama campaign poster brought him national attention. First, he admitted lying in a lawsuit involving the Associated Press, which is demanding that Fairey pay royalties for using an AP photo of the president as the basis of his “HOPE” poster.

Now, it seems Fairey's adopted hometown of Los Angeles is turning against him. The City of West Hollywood, which was close to awarding Fairey a $90,000 contract to “conceptualize a design” for public art at the West Hollywood Park, has tabled the idea — at least for now, according to the Beverly Press.

“We just need to do a little more research,” West Hollywood cultural affairs administrator Andy Campbell told the paper. He said the proposal to hire Fairey was pulled from the city council agenda until the “research” can be completed.

Looks like Fairey's ethical blunders are catching up to him.
