Schizophrenic former TV extra Shawn William Tischler went missing May 27 in Pacoima, and his father is asking the Los Angeles public's help in finding the slight, tattooed Venice regular who “doesn't know who he is and gets confused, and refers to himself as Maynard.”

Tischler vanished twice — first from the 13000 block of Weidner Street in Pacoima in May, reappearing in Long Beach on June 29. There, his dad John says, he was arrested “for no apparent reason.” The father angrily alleges that Long Beach police let his mentally ill son wander away from their police lobby, never to be seen again.

His father spoke very highly of his son, saying “He got sick eight to nine years ago, and before that, he was an actor in American Pie 2 and many TV shows, amazing drummer, interested in calculus, mathematics, quantum physics, and he used to go to the Venice Beach every chance he got.”

The Tischlers heard on June 30 that John was in Granada Hills but couldn't find him. His family is understandably very concerned because Tischler does not have his schizophrenia medication with him.

Tischler stands out as a very slight man, 5 feet 4, 110 pounds, with a tribal triangle tattoo on his lower back and a tongue piercing. The brown-haired, brown-eyed man frequents the Venice area.

Missing Persons Detective Cletus Carlton of the Los Angeles Police Department has been leading the search, and anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact Carlton at (213) 996-1800 during the day, or 1-877-LAPD-24-7 during non-business hours.

John Tischler blasted the Long Beach Police Department, saying that on June 26, when his son was arrested, police officers were “rude to him, treated him terribly, brought him into the station, and left him in the lobby unattended. He walked out, confused and disoriented, and has not been seen since then.”

His father is worried that his son will be abused on the streets by cops, like Kelly Thomas, allegedly beaten to death by Fullerton police. Thomas was mentally ill and policemen perceived him to be “resisting arrest,” according to some accounts.

Tischler said “I'm almost more afraid of police finding him than him not being found at all,” following the bludgeoning of Thomas, the rude treatment Long Beach police gave his own son on June 26, and what Tischler says is a lack of concern for Shawn on the part of the LAPD.

The elder Tischler spent three days in Long Beach on the streets, talking to homeless people and witnesses near the Aquarium of the Pacific, searching for any clues on the whereabouts of his son. He put flyers around Long Beach, and is still hoping for more publicity and advertising of his son's picture.
