Two-Vehicle Crash Near Southworth Road Intersection Left Motorcyclist Dead

SONORA, CA (April 27, 2023) – Late Saturday morning, Shawn Powers was hospitalized following a deadly motorcycle crash along Highway 12. The collision happened shortly after 11:30 a.m., near the intersection of Highway 12 and Southworth Road. According to reports, a SUV was slowing down to make a left-hand turn, when a rider attempt to pass on the left-hand side of the vehicle. The 2021 Harley Davidson collided with the SUV and left the 50-year-old male rider with fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, paramedics transported the SUV driver to San Joaquin General Hospital for major injuries. Authorities identified the SUV driver as 38-year-old Shawn Powers. Police added that the motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed when the collision occurred. At this time, the authorities have not disclosed the identity of the deceased rider, as they are waiting to notify the next of kin.
