Five days after Chinese New Year comes the first Asians on Film Festival at J.E.T. Studios, showcasing the work of up-and-coming Asian filmmakers. The red carpet begins at 6 p.m., and the winner of the Best Comedy prize, Starting From Scratch from writer-director-actor James Huang, screens at 7 p.m. The film follows a couple on the brink of divorce who realize, after being audited and forced to go through old receipts, that maybe the marriage can be saved. At midnight, there's an after-hours mixer where you can mingle with some of the film-makers. The film festival is in town through Sunday.

Meanwhile, at the Warner Grand Theatre in San Pedro, the monthly “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” series begins with Sex and the City at 8 p.m. Subscribe to the eight-month series for $56 and you can drink alongside Carrie, Charlotte, Samantha and Miranda with a complimentary glass of wine. You'll also receive free tiramisu at all of the series' screenings. So grab your friends and have a girls' night out.

It's a Billy Wilder day at the Alex Theatre in Glendale, where the Alex Film Society presents two of the filmmaker's acclaimed works.

First up is Some Like It Hot, in which Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon play musicians who are accidental witnesses to a mob hit and end up hiding out — in drag — in an all-female band. As a bonus treat, some of the performers who were part of Sweet Sue and her Society Syncopators — the movie's fictional band — will attend the 2 p.m. screening.

Demonstrating Wilder's versatility, we shift gears from a musical comedy to film noir at its best in Sunset Boulevard at 8 p.m. Gloria Swan-son, former silent superstar, is the femme fatale who traps down-on-his-luck screenwriter William Holden in her self-worshipping shrine of a home. General admission is $18 for the whole day. Or, if you don't think you can handle spending five-plus hours in the gorgeous old movie palace, you can attend just one of the films.

The Los Angeles Italia Film Festival comes to the Chinese Theatre. This year's showcase of Italian films will see Al Pacino receiving the inaugural Jack Valenti-L.A. Italia Legend Award. At 12:30 p.m., Scent of a Woman, the Pacino-starring remake of Dino Risi's Profumo di donna, will be screened. The film festival is free to attend and will be in town until Feb. 23.
