It was a case of “clothes unmake the man.” When police came across a group of Griffith Park bicyclists during a fire there last August 23, one stood out because he wasn't dressed for riding. Gary Lintz, a transient whose last known address was in Glendale, was arrested on the spot on arson charges and has been in county jail since. Today he was sentenced to 16 years in prison after pleading no contest to setting an August 16 blaze near the Travel Town rail museum; he also admitted causing serious injury to a firefighter on that date, while Lintz was on probation for a previous arson conviction.

Lintz, 44, had been suspected of setting as many as eight fires in the park last summer. In return for his plea, charges in three of those blazes were dropped. The conflagrations began last July 28, with a 25-acre blaze that menaced a condor complex and forced thousands of nearby zoo visitors to flee.
