27-Year-Old Man Killed in Vehicle Collision near US 60

PHOENIX, AZ (March 14, 2022) – On Wednesday, a head-on crash on Interstate 10 claimed the life of Sergio Gutierrez-Vasquez, authorities said.

Officials stated the wrong-way crash happened around 3:20 a.m. in the left lanes of westbound Interstate 10, near the US-60 transition.

Furthermore, the crash involved a semi-truck and a Jeep Renegade.

Moreover, as a result of the crash, the semi-truck occupants did not sustain any injuries.

However, the wrong-way driver of the Jeep Renegade, identified as 27-year-old Vasquez, died at the scene.

Vasquez was reportedly traveling in the wrong direction for a few miles, as multiple callers reported the wrong-way driver before the event.

It remains unknown where he entered the freeway.

Meanwhile, at the crash site, four other drivers crashed into debris, resulting in one other driver sustaining moderate injuries.

Westbound Interstate 10 shut down for several hours, affecting morning rush-hour traffic, but reopened around 8 a.m.

A portion of US 60 remained closed for some time due to the accident but reopened before 5:00 a.m.

Further information was not made available, but an investigation is ongoing.
