Flurencio Martinez Arrested after DUI Collision on Highway 33

TAFT, CA (August 24, 2022) – Sunday night, a DUI crash near Wood Street killed Sergio Andres Lopez Mata and Edgar Eduardo Herrera Garcia.

The incident occurred just after 9:00 p.m., at the intersection of Wood Street and Highway 33. Emergency crews were dispatched to the area shortly after.

According to reports, Flurencio Martinez was driving a small car along Wood Street and collided with a semi-truck. The impact of the collision left Mata, Garcia, and two other passengers with moderate to severe injuries.

Medics arrived and pronounced 46-year-old Mata from Tijuana, Mexico, and 35-year-old Garcia, of Bakersfield dead at the scene.

Following preliminary duties, Taft Officials arrested 20-year-old Martinez, of Bakersfield for vehicular manslaughter and DUI.

At this time, an active investigation to determine more information is still underway. Once available, further details will be provided.
