It's September at Los Angeles farmers markets, and to mark the 30th anniversary of the Santa Monica Farmers Market, this month's virtual grocery list comes from the Wednesday Santa Monica stalls. Of course, it mostly does anyway, but this past Wednesday seemed more occasional than most, with crowds gathering for the celebration, Suzanne Goin signing books, Amelia Saltzman cooking under a tent, and even more chefs than usual pushing carts loaded with what's in season. As we gear up for fall in L.A., look for lamb's quarters, corn and heirloom tomatoes, the last of the peaches, fresh beans like these gorgeous flagelots, peppers and grapes and squash, including some pretty stunning Kabochas. And yes, it tastes as good as it looks.
