77-Year-Old Driver Dies in Semi-Truck Accident near Merced Avenue

BAKERSFIELD, CA (March 31, 2022) – Tuesday morning, a big-rig crash on Highway 99 took the life of 77-year-old Seluster Lane.

The accident happened around 4:44 a.m., on the southbound lanes of the highway just north of Merced Avenue.

Police said that a van driven by Lane was stopped in the No.3 lane of Highway 99 when the driver of a semi-truck rear-ended him. The impact ejected the driver from the vehicle onto the road while the van drifted into the right shoulder.

Due to the extent of injuries sustained, crews pronounced Lane dead at the scene around 4:50 a.m. Initial investigation reports indicate that drugs or alcohol did not play a role in the accident.

Police officers did not release further details regarding the collision, but an investigation is ongoing.
