Rescuers on Monday night suspended their search for a 31-year-old West Hollywood man who jumped off Venice Pier during a period of high surf and strong currents.

Brian Patrick Dunn was said to be drunk when he took a leap off the end of the structure at 2:30 a.m. Monday, apparently following 4th of July celebrations Sunday. News reports indicated that others had jumped with him but got out of the water okay.

Dunn was said to be wearing a t-shirt and shorts when he went for it. The water temperature is still cold enough to make long-term survival without a wetsuit a long shot. And the waves were big enough to challenge well-equipped surfers in daylight.

” … We're still hoping to find him,'' Coast Guard Lt. George Kolumbic said earlier
