As the Music Center kicks off its new season, World City, so launches the first program, a sculpture: Exxopolis. This isn't your garden-variety sculpture, of course — instead of being admired from afar, Exxopolis seeks to be interactive. You experience it by walking through, making for a veritable mazelike experience as lights and sounds provide the sensation of different world cultures, including performances using specific cultural instruments. Exxopolis is designed by the Architects of Air, who have been constructing similar exhibits for more than two decades. Grand Park, Event Lawn, dwntwn.; Sept. 7-15, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; free; walk-up/standby tickets only. Musiccenter.org/events/worldcity/1314-Season/Exxopolis.

Sept. 7-8, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Sept. 13-15, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., 2013
