Spirits in the Sky: A Weekend with Mary Lambert celebrates the work of the director who brought us the original Pet Sematary and its sequel, Pet Sematary II. Before traversing the horror genre, Lambert made her mark on MTV with several acclaimed music videos featuring Madonna, Janet Jackson, Eurythmics, and others. UCLA will screen both Stephen King adaptations and the program will feature a conversation hosted by film critic April Wolfe. Actors Denise Crosby, Brad Greenquist, Miko Hughes, and Dale Midkiff, as well as editor Tom Finan, will join Lambert on stage.  Sat., Aug. 3, 7:30 p.m.; $10.

The series concludes with a few rarities from Lambert including Rapid Eye Movements, a psychedelic short film made while Lambert was a student at Rhode Island School of Design. Three music videos follow: “We’ll Be Together” (Sting), “Nasty Boy” (Janet Jackson), and “Like a Prayer” (Madonna)—all on DCP. The evening closes with a rare 35mm screening of Siesta, Lambert’s trippy 1987 amnesia thriller starring Ellen Barkin, Gabriel Byrne, and Jodie Foster. Lambert, Foster, and Barkin will appear on stage with editor Glenn Morgan and executive producer Julio Caro for a discussion.  Sun., Aug. 4, 7 p.m.; $10.

Both events will be at held at UCLA’s Billy Wilder Theater, 10899 Wilshire Blvd., Westwood. (310) 206-8013, cinema.ucla.edu.
