Somebody walked up to 6 foot, 7 inch NBA legend Scottie Pippen and asked for an autograph only to be marked up by the player's fists.

That at least was the allegation facing Pippen as he volunteered to have a chit-chat with L.A. county sheriff's deputies yesterday following the Sunday confrontation at Nobu Malibu:

The department says Pippen walked into the Malibu/Lost Hills Station about 1 p.m. yesterday and stuck around for an hour of questioning.

Was he arrested?

Nope. Even after naming him as “a suspect in a fight resulting in a charge of assault with intent to commit great bodily injury,” sheriff's officials say they want to talk to witnesses who were at the restaurant before making a move.

(And to be clear here, no one has been charged with anything yet).

The fracas was reported about 6:30 p.m. Sunday in the 22700 block of Pacific Coast Highway, deputies said.

The victim sustained “a head injury,” according to the sheriff's statement. TMZ says the guy might have lost some teeth, too.

In case you think the victim was faking his story, a photograph of him leaving the Japanese restaurant in an ambulance might bolster his case:

Or maybe the guy's an actor.
