Culture PickTiki enthusiasts are a fervent, fun-loving lot and for those who celebrate the culture, it’s a real community. Oceanic Arts, the world’s foremost purveyor and supplier Polynesian ephemera and decor, recently announced the shuttering of its Whittier warehouse, but they aren’t going away quietly. Owners Bob Van Oosting and LeRoy Schmaltz are going out with a wild and whimsical wave of celebration– several in fact. All month long Peekaboo Gallery hosts events tied to the closure, from music events to art shows to panels, ending with an epic auction featuring rare memorabilia from O.A.’s one of a kind emporium, in business since 1956.
