A man who was fatally shot as he was sitting in a car with a female friend in South Los Angeles May 21 has been identified as 20-year-old Savoy Ewell.

According to police reports, Ewell was sitting in a car with a female friend in the 4200 block of West 28th Street when they were approached by a African American male.

The shooter fired several rounds at the couple. He hit Ewell in the chest, neck, forearm, back and groin.

The woman, who has not been identified, was able to drive away towards West Adams Boulevard and call police. The two victims were transported to a local hospital where Ewell died of his injuries. The woman who also sustained gun shot wounds is expected to survive.
