Driver Arrested after Fatal Pedestrian Collision near Vicksburg Avenue
OAKLAND, CA (August 2, 2023) – Authorities arrested Santu Maya a month after a hit-and-run crash on Football Boulevard. The incident occurred near Vicksburg Avenue on Friday, June 16th. Per reports, the driver of a black Mercedes-Benz struck Maya who was crossing the street within a marked crosswalk. Upon impact, the driver fled the scene without rendering aid or contacting police. Medical personnel arrived and transported 58-year-old Maya to a nearby hospital where she eventually succumbed to her injuries. Authorities managed to arrest the suspect nearly a month after the incident in the Fairfax neighborhood in East Oakland.
