Cops in Santa Monica were looking for the driver of a silver sports coupe after the car struck a woman and her mother as they crossed a street near the pier early Saturday.

The mom, 61, suffered major head trauma and died soon after the collision, Santa Monica police said. The daughter, 32, suffered minor injuries, they said.

It happened …

… about 1 a.m. in the 1600 block of Ocean Avenue, police said.

The women are from Wisconsin. The mother was reportedly visiting the daughter, who had moved to Santa Monica.

According to a Santa Monica Police Department statement:

… The mother suffered major head trauma and was unresponsive when first responders arrived on scene. CPR was administered to the mother on scene and she was transported to a local trauma hospital for treatment.

Cops said they found out about the mother's death at 2 a.m. Saturday. Neither victim was identified by police.

CBS Los Angeles reported that detectives have narrowed down the type of car they're looking for to a 2003 to 2007 Infiniti G35. It could be silver or gray, the station said.

Anyone with info about the car or driver was asked to call police at 310-395-9931.
