72-Year-Old Male Bicyclist Dead after Fatal Collision near Kenneth Street

SANTA CLARA, CA (May 10, 2022) – Thursday morning, a San Jose man was pronounced dead after a bicycle accident on Laurelwood Road.

Officers were called to the 1500 block of Laurelwood Road at 9:25 a.m., near Kenneth Street.

Reports revealed that the bicyclist was traveling east on Laurelwood Road against oncoming traffic. Meanwhile, the driver of a 2006 Toyota Prius was “cautiously entering” the roadway from a parking lot.

For reasons unknown, the bicyclist fell from his bike onto the road, where the Toyota struck him. Upon impact, the driver remained at the scene.

Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced the 72-year-old man from San Jose, dead at the scene.

The surrounding area was closed off for a brief time during cleanup and preliminary duties.

Police said alcohol, drugs and distracted driving do not appear to have played a role in the collision. However, an active investigation into the bicycle accident on Laurelwood Road is still underway.
