The city of San Bernardino has moved to shut down a long-time venue for raves and concerts, the Hudson Theater, citing what it argues is an inordinate number of police calls to the spot.

The San Bernardino Sun reports that the City Attorney's office has asked a judge for a preliminary injunction against the venue at 295 E. Caroline St. Judge Janet Frangie has scheduled a hearing for March. The city states that the Hudson — home of the recent

“Kandy Festival” featuring Felix Da Housecat, Junior Sanchez and DJ Irene (not a bad lineup) — was the source of 280 calls for police and fire help from August 2008 to August 2009.

That number is “far more than any other location in the city,” according to the city's filing. Alcohol violations, excessive noise and curfew violations have also been off the charts, the city argues, and efforts to abate the problems have yielded little results.

In its defense, the theater has three words for the city: Roger Jon Diamond. If you'll recall the city of Los Angeles' attempted lap-dance ban of the early '00s, it was attorney Diamond who represented many of said strip clubs. And those establishments were victorious (try and get a dancer to stay six feet away from you these days — just try it). Just sayin'.
