Police today say the victim of a fatal shooting outside a Sun Valley club is a 17-year-old boy, identified as Samuel Mendez Guerra.

What was the teen from North Hollywood doing at 2 a.m. at El Castillo when the club closed Saturday night?

It's not clear.

Here's what cops say happened:

About 2 a.m. Sunday shots rang out outside the venue at 8351 San Fernando Road.

Guerra was was found down with multiple gunshot wounds, according to what Sgt. Michael Smith of the LAPD's Foothill Division told City News Service.

Coroner's officials later identified the teen.

Lt. Kris Kenney of the LAPD told the news service:

As the club closed, a dispute erupted and a shooting occurred.

We looked up El Castillo on the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control's License Query System and found that its current ownership has a clean record with the ABC.

Although it bills itself as a “night club,” words which are painted on the venue, El Castillo's alcohol license is for a restaurant, according to ABC records.

In the late 1990s the same address, under different owners, was cited for allegedly serving alcohol to a minor and either giving away, diluting or “mislabling” its alcoholic beverages, according to records.
