This weekend will be, as it so often is around this time of year, really, really hot. Ice cream weather, in other words, and all the more reason to go to the Arts District tomorrow, where, between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m., Salt & Straw's ice cream truck will be parked outside Blacktop Coffee, scooping a choice selection of its quite terrific ice cream.

The truck, in fact, has been scooping there for the past few Saturdays; last week's menu of flavors included sea salt with caramel ribbons, salted malted chocolate chip cookie dough and Stumptown coffee with Compartes' Love Nuts.

For those who do not make a habit of keeping up with ice cream-related news, Salt & Straw is a Portland-based shop famed for its creative small-batch ice creams made with local ingredients; an L.A. outpost of the shop will open early fall just a stone's throw from Go Get Em Tiger in Larchmont Village. Over the last few weeks, its adorable truck has been making various stops around town, though perhaps the easiest way to catch them has been on Saturdays in the Arts District (per usual, follow them on Twitter for updates to their schedule).

If you miss them on Saturday and it's still ice cream weather, you might want to mentally note that Salt & Straw also can be found at Joan's on Third. And that early fall is not that far away.
