For all of you who've been crying over your old copies of Gourmet since the magazine folded in October, get an umbrella and get out of the house this evening. Evan Kleiman is moderating a Zócalo-sponsored talk celebrating Gourmet at the Skirball Center tonight at 7:30 p.m. Former Gourmet editor Ruth Reichl will be there to discuss the magazine, as will Laurie Ochoa and Jonathan Gold (formerly an editor and writer, respectively, at Gourmet; and former editor and current staff writer, also respectively, at this publication). Reichl, Ochoa and Gold will look back at “the history of Gourmet, the culture it sparked, and the future of the Gourmet brand and American food writing.” Note: this event is sold out; at 6 p.m. event organizers will open a stand-by list at the center for those without reservations. If you can't make it or can't get in, audio, video, text, photographs and a podcast of the talk will all be available tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. on Zócalo's website.
