Former L.A.Weekly art critic Ralph Rugoff has been named director of the CCAC Institute at the California College of Arts and Crafts. Rugoff will bring exhibitions to the San Francisco and Oakland campuses, run a residency program for artists, and oversee lectures and publications. He replaces Lawrence Rinder, who has moved on to become curator of contemporary art at the Whitney Museum in New York. Rugoff curated “The Greenhouse Effect” this spring at the Serpentine Gallery in London, where he has been based recently, and the 1997 UCLA Hammer Museum show “Scene of the Crime.” Author of Circus Americanus, a collection of Weekly essays on contemporary visual culture, Rugoff will continue to contribute to this paper.
